Back To School
Whether you're the parent of wee ones, or heading back to school yourself (maybe even in The Herbal Path), shift from the breeziness of summer to structure and focus of fall can be a big change. One of my favorite ways to get back in the swing of things and support the body as it heads into a time of more structure and focus? Herbs! And more specifically, ones for the brain. Giving the brain a little boost during this seasonal change can help with concentration, mood, and efficiency as we prepare for heightened productivity.

Brain Boosting Botanicals
While there are many herbs out there that can help support the brain, when it comes to the back-to-school transition, one of my favorites will always be Lion's Mane mushroom. Lion's mane is a mild flavored mushroom that mixes well with other ingredients, my favorite of which being cacao. The versatility of this mushroom paired with its nootropic action helps make it a home run for back to school time. This season I've combined the brain boosting properties of Lion's Mane with the mood and energy boosting properties of Cacao to create a tasty back to school beverage that's sure to put a pep in everyone's step this time of year.

Back To School Recipe For Brain Support:
Lions Mane and Cacao Iced Milk
Ingredients
2 cups milk or milk alternative (my favorite is a blend of cashew and almond milk for creaminess)
2-3 TBL Raw Cacao Powder
2 Tsp Lions Mane Mushroom Powder
1 Tsp Cocoa Powder
2-3 Dates
Small Saucepan (for cooking)
Whisk
High-Powered Blender
Optional: 1/4 Tsp vanilla bean powder for flavor and mood boosting properties
Optional: 1 Tsp Astragalus Root Powder (for added immune support)
Directions
Add milk, cacao, cocoa, and astragalus if using to a small saucepan. Warm gently until steaming, whisking often to encourage melting of the ingredients). Once all is melted and combined, add to a high powered blender along with the dates and a splash of vanilla powder. Blend on high until fully combined. Remove from blender, let cool, and serve over ice, and enjoy! You can also mix it up and serve this drink warm when the temperatures drop.
P.S. If the dates are too much of a fuss you can sub for 2-3 TBL of organic cane sugar. Add sugar in saucepan with other ingredients.
